Ever since this crazy treatment reached our shores, I have been advising my clients NOT to indulge. The risk of everyday minor infections both bacterial and fungal is high considering the water is only cleaned by light. Maybe it’s time for me to stop wasting my money on proffessional cleaning products for my equipment and just start sloshing it round in the washing up water!

And what of the fish? They are alive and as such, need to perform bodily functions .. where? In the water with your feet! I have flashbacks to being a child when my goldfish would swim around its tank with a trail of poo behind it … most unpleasant and I certainly don’t remember EVER wanting to put my feet anywhere near it! Eugh….

I know a few people who have tried this form of pedicure and my main question to them was ‘did anyone take medical history and check your feet for common infections such as athletes foot, verruccas, fungal nails etc?’ In the words of Cilla, surprise, surpise the answer was no .. Some took brief medical history but NONE checked the feet before allowing them into the communal waters. Well that’s ok then .. just sign to say you are infection free and let the little beasts feast on your athletes foot before nibbling on the next persons feet.

I also leant that you are given cream to apply after your feet come out of the water .. what, you apply it yourself?? Yup, that’s right .. no foot and leg massage or pampering here then.

My opinion for what it’s worth is this is a DIY pedicure performed by you and the fish .. Why anyone would consider spending their hard earned on this ‘treatment’ is beyond me ..
